Bodegas Montecillo, Viña Monty, Rioja, Graciano Reserva 2015

Established in 1870, Viña Monty has just celebrated 150 years of winemaking at Bodegas Montecillo in Rioja Alta. Historically this was the winery’s top label and was re-launched in 2020 with two amazing red wines. For the Graciano, the grapes are sourced from two distinct plots; one in Cenicero, Rioja Alta, and one in Rioja Oriental at lower altitude near the Ebro River. The two wines are vinified separately before blending and ageing in new French oak for 30 months, followed by 16 months in bottle before release. It’s deep garnet in colour with a sensitive, almost delicate nose with wild mint and red fruit aromas plus some blackberry and black cherry. Beautiful, elegant and perfectly balanced.
