Alpha, Malagouzia Single Vineyard Turtles 2019

Alpha Estate is located in Amyndeo, northwest Greece. It’s the brainchild of second generation vine grower Makis Mavridis and Bordeaux trained winemaker Angelos Iatrides. This pristine estate in the cool highlands of Western Macedonia comprises 120 ha of privately owned single block vineyards and employs the most up to date vineyard techniques and winemaking technology to produce world class wines from French and indigenous Greek varietals. The Malagouzia grapes (pronounced Mah-lah-gou-ZYA) come from a single vineyard site, known as “Turtles” because it’s a nesting site for the local turtle population. The soil is sandy clay with excellent drainage. This wine has a lively nose of grapefruit, nectarine and hints of almond blossom which leads to a richly textured palate. It has superb length, balance and plenty of finesse. Bright and zesty on the finish.
