Channing Daughters, Pinot Grigio, New York

- Wine Type
Walter Channing, founder and owner of Channing Daughters, is a keen wood sculptor and his love for nature, textures and form is a big part of the estate’s ethos and style. Together with CEO Larry Perrine and winemaker Christopher Tracy, Channing has created a truly unique project that combines craftsmanship and experimentation in equal measures. Together they’ve been able to harness the potential of Long Island’s terroir in New York to make idiosyncratic wines with a natural soul.
Unlike the cheap, mass made versions of Pinot Grigio you see on supermarket shelves, which are thin and just have some basic fruit and acidity, Channing Daughters makes an artisanal version they call “clean, alluring and focused” with layer upon layer of flavour and character. 27% of the wine was aged in oak barrels and the wine was made with the grape skins sat with the juice for a portion of time. These two elements give this wine its complexity and character.
The wine has layers of fruit flavours including fresh pear, citrus, honeysuckle and brown spices complemented by a long, saline minerality eventually stretching out to a long juicy, satisfying finish. Excellent with fish, light chicken dishes and pasta.
