Albariño can produce young explosive aromatic driven wines, or mouth filling wines like this one.
To achieve the latter, it was harvested late, the flavours and texture were extracted from the skins, with some work on the lees in the barrel. There was skin contact for 9 days and it was aged in second use oak barrels for 8 months. Welcome to the dark side of albariño.
Not a shy wine, The Dark Side shows classic aromas of bruised apple and brazil nuts with hints of Calvados on the nose. The palate is no less intense with red apple peel and jackfruit, supple mouthfeel and zesty acidity.
Bizarra is a movement that originates in Santiago Deicas’ passion and obsession for innovation.
He started a few years ago by making craft beer and then decided to apply some of these techniques to make natural wine. This range aims to experiment with oenology and its limits.
With the first vintage being 2018, and small quantities made, these are quickly becoming some of the most sought after vanguard wines from Uruguay.
