Diogo's family has a long history with the Basto region, where he's always lived. After the death of his grandfather Inácio in 1987, Diogo began working as a winemaker. Years later, in 2008, his wife Mafalda joined Quinta da Raza as head of the export market. There are 14 vineyards across 50 hectares at the vineyard.
The winery is committed to environmental sustainability - Quinta da Raza was the first estate in the Vinho Verde region to be certified with the national sustainability standard for the wine sector from ViniPortugal and they now have photovoltaic panels in the winery and vineyard; water is reused where possible and waste water is treated before being released; waste such as plastics, metal and paper are recycled; it has an ethics code for it employees; it partners with the local community to give back.
Winemaking: Grapes were destemmed and then pressed at low pressures. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Notes: It's an open citrus-coloured wine with a very refreshing fruity aroma and crunchy on the palate. Pair with salads, shellfish, fish or light meals.
