Winemaker:Jean-Pierre Meffre, whose Domaine Saint Gayan is based in the Southern Rhône stronghold of Gigondas, has an impeccable track record. His family have been making wine in these parts for 400 years. Like its sibling Gigondas, the Côtes du Rhône has more character than many and can be aged for 3 to 5 years from release. Predominantly Grenache Noir (averages c.60 to 70%), with a quarter Syrah, and the remainder Mourvèdre.
Tasting Notes: Full bodied, packed full of ripe, blackcurrant and plum fruits. Touches of white pepper and spice with a rich, silky soft finish.
Winemaking:Hand harvested Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah grapes are macerated and fermented in cement vats and racked in used oak barrels for at least a year before bottling.
Food Pairing: Drink with cheese and charcuterie, or chicken and mushroom dishes.
