Stella Bella, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Margaret River



This boutique winery in the heart of Margaret River is low interventionist and organic. They use minimal chemical inputs and fertilisers are used along with minimal intervention. They recently introduced Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (the Australian Native Ladybird) to eat mealy bugs. Western Australia being free from Phylloxera, Stella Bella wines are all on their own roots. 10% new French oak was used to complement the fruit while providing some subtle mocha and vanillin oak sweetness. The wine was held in oak for 12 months and racked and returned twice before being fined with Margaret River free range eggs, filtered and bottled. This has aromas of violets, satsumas, plums and glazed cherries followed by red currants, raspberries and subtle vanillin oak with a hint of smokiness on the palate. It’s juicy, medium bodied and full of flavour.
