Mischief and Mayhem Wines is the creation of Brits Michael and Fiona Ragg and their friend Michael Twelftree. In 2003, after working for Berry Bros & Rudd wine merchants in London for almost ten years, Michael and Fiona moved to Aloxe Corton, just north of the lovely town of Beaune, in the Cote d’Or region of Burgundy. They source grapes from across the Cote d’Or. They visit all of the vineyards they use to check upon vine health and vineyard development throughout the season; this allows them to ensure that their wines truly reflect the terroir-specific nature that is Burgundy. They also advocate sustainable viticulture, low yields and hand harvesting.
Grapes come from south-east facing clay-limestone slopes with sandy marl. About 2/3 of the fruit is from the Côte Chalonnaise and Mercurey. 10% of the grapes come from the vineyard they own in Aloxe Corton. Between 10-15% of the blend is always Village level from the Côte de Nuits and Brochon just outside Gevrey-Chambertin. Vine age is between 30 – 80 years. Fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts. It undergoes full malo. A portion of the wine is aged in oak, 30% of which is new. Bottled in the December following harvest without fining or filtration.
Pure mineral nose with red cherry and a savoury note. Moreish and juicy with fine chalky tannins.
