Founded by recognised winemaker Cathy Marshall in 1997, the Barefoot Wine Company was one of the first true ‘boutique/micro-wineries’ in the Western Cape. She established a then ground-breaking, alternative approach, characterised by the use of a low-tech, but meticulous hands-on methodology which set the trend for the burgeoning garagiste movement. Layered and textured truffle savouriness and earthy forest floor characters are interwoven with concentrated black cherry compote and harmoniously supported by mineral tannins. Although the wine is approachable in its primary stage with fresh cherry and red berry components evident at youth, the wine will age for at least 10 years.
